What is the energy price cap right now?

From 1 October to 31 December 2026 the Ofgem price cap is £1,723 a year for a typical Direct Debit household in England, Scotland and Wales. Electricity is 26.32p per kWh and gas is 7.97p per kWh, with standing charges of 54.83p and 29.68p a day.

Will energy bills go up in January 2027?

Suppliers predict the January to March 2027 cap will rise about 24.9% to £2,152 a year for a typical household. Ofgem confirms the real figure on 25 November 2026. Our January 2027 price cap guide covers the prediction in detail.
